~ Nantucket Public Schools New Security Changes ~
The Nantucket Community School has
enjoyed a full and active year offering a wide variety of programs to all of
our Islanders...from itty-bitty to wisdom-filled!
Our winter session is in full force with
an extensive list of high-quality classes offered though our Adult Education,
Community Pool, Early Childhood, Extended Day and Youth Enrichment Programs.
Help keep those winter doldrums at bay by joining us in one, or several, of
NCS's fitness and enrichment programs. Islanders have enjoyed our many options
including guided meditation, language classes, culinary arts, computer courses,
Real Estate pre-licensure classes, GED testing, Driver's Education classes,
CPR, personal awareness, yoga, aerobic and aqua fitness programs and Learn to
Swim classes. January has brought back your winter favorites: Co-Ed Basketball
and Volleyball for adults. And, check out our newest fitness program, Abada
Capoeira, a Brazilian Martial Arts form that combines music and dance. Capoeira
classes are available for children, teens and adults! This is sure to become
your next favorite!
Our Child & Adolescent Enrichment Program kicked into high gear in January.
Be on the lookout for our brochures and registration forms located in your
child's backpack and on our website. Elementary School children will have the
opportunity to enjoy a plethora of Arts & Discovery programs this Winter
and Spring including Volleyball, Mythology, Critter Creations, Drama, Art,
Knitting, Cooking and expanded options with FUNtastics!, NCS's newest, non-competitive,
tumbling and movement program. Middle school students can look forward to newly
added enrichment activities including Abada Capoeira for Youth, Science
Wizards, Volleyball, Fashion related FUN and our newest teen leadership
initiative, Youth Empowering Lasting Leadership (YELL) - What do YOU want to
YELL about?!?
Our Early Childhood team continues to bring you activities that encourage
literacy development, parenting support, resource connection and school
readiness skills for all of our youngest Nantucketers and their families.
Please plan to join us for our 3-part Parent Development Series. Jeanine
Fitzgerald, renowned speaker and author, will present Parenting With Style
which will be followed by two Parent Café discussion groups. You can connect
with other caregivers while adding more strategies to your parenting toolbox.
Babysitting is available with registration. Also, be on the lookout this winter
for additional Family Friendly Fun. We're adding programs to our schedule so
that you can add fun to your winter weekends. Do you have a child starting
kindergarten next year? If so, please check out our Ready, Set, SCHOOL Spring
program! Please remember to register your children for one of our many Early
Childhood Center (ECC) activities. ECC Winter Registration is ongoing and can
be done via phone or in person. We look forward to hearing from you!
NCS's Extended Day/Afterschool program at NES is filled with smiling, playful
and very active children! If you are looking for a caring, balanced and fun
place for your child's after school environment, please call or drop in for a
conversation. Registration is ongoing and open throughout the school year.
